Award: best clinical excellence and judgement demonstrated by a final year Chiropractic student24/4/2015 On Wednesday night I (Dr Adam Rowney) was privileged to receive an award at Murdoch University from Chiropractic Education Australia Ltd. It was awarded for, best clinical excellence and judgement demonstrated by a final year Chiropractic student. I wanted to say a special thankyou to Chiropractic Education Australia Ltd for sponsoring the award, and for their continual support of Chiropractic education at Murdoch University. I very much appreciate the award and will continue to strive for excellence in my everyday practice and continual education. This past weekend myself (Dr Adam Rowney) had a trip to Melbourne for the Fitness & Health Expo. The Fitness & Health Expo is a chance for the public and members of the fitness & health industry to see the latest in available services and products. There are three main aspects to the expo:
I want to start by saying a massive well done to my friend Claire who was competing for her first time in the INBA Figure fitness competition. I think the best way to describe figure fitness that it is a half way point between bikini modelling and bodybuilding. It requires hours of training, preparation and dedication to get to the figure that they get on the stage; so well done.
The main point of the expo however is to demonstrate the latest and greatest to the industry professionals and to the public. There is some great advice and displays there, with my favourite being the VIVObarefoot shoes. I think these are some of the best barefoot shoes available, they have a wide range and are well constructed as a genuine barefoot shoe. (If you have further questions about barefoot shoes feel free to contact myself; or checkout the VIVObarefoot website) However, the majority of the time I watched as many companies and so called "experts" pushed products and advice that as far as I'm concerned, are of no benefit or even detrimental to someone's health. This included certain supplements, nutritional weight-loss advice, types of exercise & equipment. Some of which just doesn't make physiological sense & some that have even been shown in multiple high quality studies to be on no benefit or even detrimental to someone's performance that were being pushed as the latest and greatest. So just as a warning, please think about what you are buying into when someone is selling you a product or giving advice. If it doesn't make sense or your are unsure, research it yourself or contact a health professional that you trust and ask them about it. I wanted to say a quick congratulations to all the runners who participated in the Perth Trail Series 50km Truth or Consequences & 25km Half Truth race this past Easter weekend Saturday. A special well done goes to those who completed their first Ultra-Marathon! For those of you who aren't runners, a race longer than a 42km marathon such as this 50km race is classified as an ultra-marathon. Talking to the runners crossing the line, the course consisting of +/- 1680m elevation change was well deserving of the name. I was there helping with free treatments to those involved. It was a fairly early start with a 6:20am setup and finishing up at 5:00pm. I helped out with rub-downs, soft-tissue work, adjustments, taping & advice. Overall I had a great time helping out. Well done & I'll see you out on the trails ;) P.S. If you are interested in trail running I highly recommend the Perth Trail Series runs (www.perthtrailseries.com). A massive amount of effort put into making these runs fun for trail runners of all abilities. Today marks the first day that Rowney Chiropractic has opened it's doors for treatment in Cockburn at Edge Fitness. This is a great facility with a cheerleading academy & personal training studio. This enables a clean transition from first phase management, all the way through to sports specific training with the ability to demonstrate exercises and progressions in a gym, home or sports environment. Rowney Chiropractic is located up the stairs to the left as you enter the building. If you would like further information, feel free to contact me or book an appointment online. Also treating at Reynolds Chiropractic If the clinic at Edge Fitness in Cockburn is a little out of your way or the idea of tackling a flight of stairs is an issue, I also treat at Reynolds Chiropractic in Applecross. Bookings for Reynolds Chiropractic can be done by calling (08) 6162 9288. |
